Your Customers Are Already Giving You Blog Ideas

One of the hardest parts of blogging for a small business is deciding what to write about.

After a few posts, the obvious ideas are gone. You open a blank document and start searching for another “interesting” topic.

But there’s a much easier source of ideas:

Your customers.

Think about the questions people ask before they buy from you.

“How much does it cost?”
“How long does it take?”
“What’s the difference between these options?”
“Is this right for my business?”
“What happens after I sign up?”

Each question can potentially become a useful blog post.

Start with your sales conversations

Ask whoever speaks with prospects to write down the questions they hear repeatedly.

Don’t dismiss basic questions because the answers seem obvious to you. If customers keep asking, there’s probably an information gap worth filling.

Pay attention to objections

Objections can make even better content.

If prospects regularly say something is too expensive, explain what affects the cost. If they’re unsure whether they need a service, write about who does and doesn’t need it.

You’re not writing a sales pitch. You’re helping someone make a more informed decision.

Look beyond sales

Your content ideas can also come from:

  • Customer emails
  • Support tickets
  • Reviews
  • Social media comments
  • Search queries
  • Conversations with existing customers

You can even revisit questions you’ve already answered individually and turn them into resources that help hundreds of future visitors.

This approach also makes DIY Marketing: What You Can Realistically Do Yourself more practical. You don’t need a complicated editorial brainstorming process. Start by documenting what your business already knows.

The bonus?

People asking these questions in person are often asking the same questions on Google.

That means you’re not just filling your blog calendar.

You’re creating content around things potential customers are already looking for.
